“You drive like you’re from (fill in the blank)!!”
You’ve probably said this before, but what city would you consider to be “home of the worst drivers?”
Well, according to a recent Slate “investigation,” Philly drivers are the second-worst in the country.
While it’s impossible to really determine what city breeds bad drivers, the study looked at AllState’s “America’s Best Drivers Report,” mileage, fatalities, drunk driving incidents and more. Still, much of the data is limited, especially for cities with a lower population.
And the top 5 cities for worst drivers…drum roll please…
#5 Baltimore
#4 Tampa, FL
#3 Hialeah, FL
#2 Philadelphia- “Drivers in the city of brotherly love enjoy a good love tap behind the wheel. Second-places finishes in collisions and pedestrian strikes overwhelm their semi-respectable 16th-place ranking in DWI deaths,” according to Slate.
#1 Miami, FL
Well, at least we seem to be doing OK with those DWIs. I won’t be renting a car in Florida anytime soon, that’s for sure.
Still, Brian Palmer admits in the article that the list is imperfect:
Is that weighting arbitrary? A little bit. Is the data sketchy in places? Undoubtedly. Could you think of other metrics? Sure. But this isn’t a policy document. It’s a parlor game. If you don’t like my methodology, make your own.
