From now until June 9, PennDOT is partnering with more than 600 law enforcement agencies and the Pennsylvania State Police to participate in a national “Click It or Ticket” seat-belt enforcement effort.
The efforts are largely focused on nighttime enforcement with roving patrols and traffic safety checkpoints.
A seat belt increases your chances of surviving a crash by up to 60 percent.
According to PennDOT data, 503 people died last year in unbelted crashes, and PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said, “The majority of crashes happen within 25 miles from home….”
So even when you might be going for a quick trip, it’s important to buckle up.
Pennsylvania’s primary seat-belt law requires drivers and passengers under 18 years old to buckle up. Drivers and front-seat passenger are also required to buckle up regardless of age. Children ages 4 to 8 must be restrained in a booster seat and children under 4 must be in an approved child safety seat.
