As a result of combined police and PennDOT Operation Safe Holiday efforts, the Pennsylvania State Police in Troop K made 12 DUI arrests between Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
Troop K covers highways in Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery counties, as well as other municipalities without police departments.
During the holiday, Troop K responded to 45 crashes and issued 469 citations. Four of the crashes were linked to alcohol.
According to PennDOT, last year’s holiday travel period from Christmas 2011 into the 2012 New Year resulted in a combined 1,994 crashes and 19 fatalities
Pennsylvania State Police and PennDOT urge drivers to take extra precautions this winter, especially with the added risk of harsh winter weather conditions.
